What is Context Free Media?
1. What We’d Like You To Believe
Context Free Media, as the name suggests, denies the context(s) within which it exists. A California-based record label, Context is a platform for music which presents the listener more musical questions than answers. While Context has strong roots in dance music, most notably techno, it explores uncomfortable areas where this definition makes no sense.
2. The Truth Of Things
Why art? Why music? Cultural masturbation no longer holds any useful social signifigance. It is a commodity, with value arising only from the surrounding commerce. To further realize this cultural irrelevance, Context Free Media seeks to increase the amount of useless musical information our world contains.
3. The TV Commercial
California is all about bikinis, positive vibes, Hollywood, and dot-commerce, no? Well, yes. So where does a record label which treads the rocky water between dance music and art music fit in? It doesn’t.
Who started it?
Context Free Media was founded in 1999 by Seth Horvitz aka Sutekh.
Is the label still releasing records?
In consolidation with the world’s ailing financial institutions, Context Free Media has scaled back its operating budget. We are now mainly a blog devoted to promoting the various endeavors of our CEO.
